Join us LIVE on Monday 17 January for the first Gospel Issues seminar of 2022! You’ll also be able to interact with us live, by asking your questions in the chat section.

We’ll be live on YouTube and also on our Facebook page.

About this Event

Christians are often confused by the sections of law they read in the Bible. Do the laws in Leviticus and Deuteronomy still apply to us today? Can they teach us anything about how to engage with our own culture, thousands of years on from when the laws were first written down?

What can Christians learn from the laws in the Old Testament? In this talk, Professor Jonathan Burnside explains why we should take all parts of Scripture equally seriously, including all the texts that concern Biblical Law.

We will also be joined after the talk by Christian Concern’s chief executive, Andrea Williams, and Head of Public Policy, Tim Dieppe, for a live Q&A.

About the speaker

Jonathan is Professor of Biblical Law at the University of Bristol, and teaches criminal law, Jewish law and jurisprudence. He holds degrees from the University of Cambridge in law and criminology, and a doctorate in law from the University of Liverpool.

He became professor at the University of Bristol’s School of Law in 2012. Previously, he spearheaded ‘Relational Justice’ for the Jubilee Centre.

His book, God, Justice and Society, received outstanding reviews internationally. Jonathan seeks to build bridges between our understanding of Biblical Law and modern law by connecting Biblical normative conventions to areas of modern law.

More about the series

Gospel Issues is Christian Concern’s seminar series launched in 2019 to inform and equip the church on issues that Christians are facing today. Whether we are aware of it or not, society is changing at a rapid rate, and many Christians are finding themselves at odds with the truths of the Bible and what is being accepted and promoted in modern society.

On the third Monday of each month, we will explore hot-button topics such as transgenderism, abortion, education reforms, marriage and Islam. These seminars aim to give Christians clear and compassionate ways of understanding, responding to and challenging the issues that are becoming ever present in schools, workplaces and churches.

Join us as we explore the ideological roots of the challenges around us and put on the mind of Christ as we think through the Biblical responses needed.

You can also watch all of our previous seminars for free!

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
