19 November 2019

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

Let us pray for:

1. The Candidates

  • For candidates be open and honest about their views and intentions during the election campaign.
  • For Christian candidates not to compromise on key moral issues in an attempt to win votes.
  • For people who will speak up for the importance of family and morality in our nation to be elected.
  • For God to expose the true nature of candidates who would be a negative influence in parliament.

2. The Campaign

  • For party policies and manifestos to be honest and clear.
  • For the financial costs of policies to be honest and clear.
  • For campaigning to be conducted with respect and integrity.
  • For journalists to hold the parties and politicians to account for their claims.
  • For issues like the sexualisation of children in schools to rise to prominence.*
  • For Christian freedoms and morality to be discussed.
  • For gender self-identification to become an election issue.
  • For the key televised debates to be clear and insightful about the differences in policies and stances of the major parties and their leaders, and to be conducted with respect.

3. Christians

  • For Christian voices to be heard during the campaign.
  • For Christians to have the boldness to challenge the candidates on moral issues.
  • For churches to host hustings and to use these opportunities to raise issues of Christian morality and freedoms.
  • For Christians to email their candidates to challenge them on key issues.
  • For Christians to have clarity on who the best candidate to vote for is.
  • For Christians to show love and respect to those who do not share the same political views.
  • For Christians to place our hope not in politicians but in Jesus Christ alone, and to be unashamed of his gospel and Christian values and morality.

4. The Election

  • For a clear result that the nation will respect.
  • For instances of electoral fraud to be caught and prevented.
  • For people of integrity to be elected.
  • For the election of candidates who will champion Christian freedoms and morality.
  • For people with integrity who will uphold morality to get positions in the new cabinet.
  • For the new government to have integrity and to honour its election pledges.
  • For the new government to uphold moral values across the nation and in schools.

5. The Nation

  • For God to have mercy on a nation that is turning away from the Lord and his ways.
  • For peace and healing to a divided nation.
  • For the nation to return to the Lord and to honour his ways.
  • For God’s purposes to be accomplished through the election campaign.
