About the event

In December 2020, 400 religious leaders from around the world signed a declaration calling for a ‘gay conversion therapy’ ban. Earlier this month, MPs held a debate in Westminster Hall calling for the government to ban so-called ‘conversion therapy.’ However, the question of whether ‘conversion therapy’ has a place in today’s society has been the subject of debate for a number of years.

Mike will explain his perspective on ‘conversion therapy’ and why banning it would have a significantly negative impact on individuals, churches and society as a whole. He will share how therapy helped him move away from unwanted same-sex attraction.

About the speaker

Mike worked as an academic, staff and student developer at the universities of Rhodes, Nottingham, Surrey and Ulster.  He founded the charity, Core Issues Trust in 2007. He is also a co-director of X-Out-Loud, which gives a voice to those coming out of the LGBT community. He has also produced and directed the feature documentary film, Voices of the Silenced (2018) and currently is working on a new production, Listening to the Silenced.

Mike actively participates in UK media debate around sexual politics. He is a board member of the Alliance for Therapeutic Choice and Scientific Integrity incorporating the NARTH Institute (Alliance) in the USA . Mike was refused certification by the UKCP and BPA and continues to advocate for the rights and freedoms of those leaving homosexuality including by submissions to the OSCE and UN.  He is married to Lynore.
