Essex council to scrap ‘Mr’ and ‘Mrs’

24 October 2019

An Essex council has announced that it wants to get rid of the prefixes ‘Mr’ and ‘Mrs’ before official titles such as ‘Mayor’ and drop ‘man’ from titles such as ‘Chairman’, all in a bid to become ‘more inclusive’.

The people of Essex are, however, less keen on this idea, with many calling the move “insulting” and “ridiculous”. The Christian Legal Centre’s Michael Phillips spoke to BBC Radio Essex about the decision, explaining how it would lead to “absolute disaster”.
