The New Normal Resource Hub: Comment
Rev Kevin DeYoung
He notes that while 'transgenderism' is not in the Bible: "the Bible teaches that God made us male or female, and no matter our own feelings or confusion, we should act in accordance with the biological reality of God’s good design. Transgenderism falls short of the glory of God and is not the way to walk in obedience to Christ."
Dr James Anderson
What is a Christian response to transgenderism?
He says our response requires a robust and holistic biblical understanding, and adds that we must offer both an apologetic and a pastoral response.
He says that we must respond to activists furthering the agenda, but also to individuals who are struggling with gender dysphoria.
Transgender: The New Normal?
Camilla highlights how much of the children's decision was influenced by their parents, and how the media uses stories like this to propagate its agenda.
"'Define yourself' is society’s new mantra", she writes.
Why Christians need to respond to gender confusion
Referring to the Christian Legal Centre case of 14-year-old 'Bethany' and her family, she emphasises that both an apologetic and a pastoral response are required, and offers some thoughts on what these responses may look like.
'Pandering to transgender agenda a delusion'
Wells comments: "A truly compassionate approach towards those struggling with feelings at variance with their biological sex would honestly, gently and patiently seek to help them to recognise and accept what they are, and not pretend that they are what they are not."
Dreher highlights some parents' stories of their children's confusion, remarking:
"Today we live in a cultural climate in which to have ordinary questions about one’s sexuality is to be drawn into a powerful cultural movement that is celebrated by the media, and that demonizes anyone who challenges its radical claims."
Dr Peter Jones
Gender Confusion and Evangelism
Dr Jones says our culture uses "apologetic terminology" to defend its worldview, which is an advantage to Christian witness.
He says: "Gender confusion is thus one powerful expression of spiritual confusion and of Oneist rebellion, which are both answered in the Christian Gospel."
