Professor raised by same-sex couple to challenge the gender and sexuality revolution

DELEGATES at a conference in London this week will hear a US Professor explain how his own experience of being raised by a same-sex couple has informed his opposition to the practice of same-sex parenting.

Professor Robert Oscar Lopez is a keynote speaker at 'The New Normal' conference which begins tomorrow (FRI 11 NOV).

The event is being organised by Christian Concern to equip parents, church leaders and others to respond to the recent revolution in society's approach to gender and sexuality.

Both his research and his experience have led Professor Lopez, who was raised by his biological mother and her same-sex partner, to become a passionate campaigner against the normalisation of same-sex parenting.

In a new book on the subject, soon to be published in the UK (Jepthah's Children - The innocent casualties of same-sex parenting), Professor Lopez writes of his own experience:

"To most outside observers, I was a well-raised, high-achieving child, finishing high school with straight A's. Inside, however, I was confused. When your home life is so drastically different from everyone around you, in a fundamental way striking at basic physical relations, you grow up weird. I have no mental health disorders or biological conditions. I just grew up in a house so unusual that I was destined to exist as a social outcast ... I had no male figure at all to follow, and my mother and her partner were both unlike traditional fathers or traditional mothers."

He continues, later in the book:

"Therein lies the rub for the boy raised by lesbians. You grow up seeing a loving relationship between two women who have defined themselves against what you are, and against the man who gave you life ... If there is any day on which I feel the importance of opposing same-sex parenting, it's Father's Day by far. Lesbian moms have done something cruel by forcing kids to grow up with a gaping void that their peers never feel."

Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern, commented:

"The voice of children is not often heard in the cultural debate about same-sex relationships. Professor Lopez speaks with great authority, both from his own experience of being raised by a same-sex couple and from his research and understanding of the evidence. For the sake of the next generation of children, his voice needs to be heard and we are delighted that he will be addressing the conference.

"Professor Lopez will join a number of other experts at the conference which will also examine the rising profile of 'transgenderism'.

"We hope that the event will help parents, church leaders and others respond to these cultural trends with truth, courage and compassion."
