Four women stabbed on Lee Rigby anniversary

Printer-friendly version

Christian Concern's Director of Islamic Affairs, Tim Dieppe writes:

A man named Ethem Aydin Orhon has been charged with stabbing four women in a Sainsbury’s car park in Hampton, west London. The attack occurred on 22nd May 2016, the third anniversary of the death of Lee Rigby. Fusilier Lee Rigby, of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, was attacked and killed when off duty by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale in Woolwich. Video footage showed Michael Adebolajo saying that he was "forced by the Qur’an" to murder Lee Rigby. David Wood explained how that attack was motivated by Islamic teaching.

A video about the Hampton attack on the Evening Standard website interviews someone who claims that people said that the attacker was shouting about "Lee Rigby’s birthday or something" (see from 1:41 in the video). If this is correct, it is very unlikely to be a coincidence.

What is surprising is that none of the mainstream media reports of the attack make this connection. Even the Evening Standard, which has this clip in their video, makes no mention of the Lee Rigby anniversary. Is there a conspiracy of silence here? It may be easier to believe that attackers like this are mentally deranged than to face up to how the Qur’an can motivate such attacks. In the long run, such silence will not make it any easier to resist this ideology.
