LibDems vote to scrap Christian assemblies

Delegates at last week's Liberal Democrat conference voted in favour of scrapping the legal requirement for schools to hold a collective act of worship of a broadly Christian character. They also supported moves to remove provision for faith schools to take belief and practice into account when selecting teachers but rejected calls for faith schools to be prevented from selecting children on the basis of faith.
