Lord Shinkwin defends his bill aiming to curb abortion disability

Lord Shinkwin's Abortion (Disability Equality) Bill had its report stage adjourned in the House of Lords on Friday 24 February, after he opposed a proposed amendment.

The new amendment sought to allow abortions after 24 weeks if there is a high chance the baby will die during or after birth. Lord Shinkwin described it as a "hijacking of my disability equality Bill in order to advance a blatantly discriminatory eugenic agenda."

The report stage will continue at a date yet to be confirmed.
